Our History in Newport
In 1973 a group of Newport residents, with the cooperation of the Superintendent of schools, and the School Committee, created Volunteers in Newport Education. VINE provides volunteers throughout the school year for its many programs as well as individual tutoring. We currently work with all the public schools in Newport. This includes five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
Over the past 32 years VINE volunteers have given thousands of hours and created specialized programs to meet the need of the educational community. They have enabled thousands of students to reach their potential by tutoring and mentoring students. Our main goal is to promote learning and make lifelong readers.
The strength of VINE is through its partnerships with people, community organizations, colleges, military, businesses, seniors, and retirees.
