The following goals are just part of the Student Learning Goals and Guidelines for School Library Media Programs, prepared by Rhode Island Educational Media Association (RIEMA) Educational Committee. RIEMA is an organization of school library media specialists in Rhode Island. I keep these goals in mind when I make lesson plans for my classes. Achieving these goals will help our students solve information problems in school and the in the real world-- now and in the future. |
| STUDENT LEARNING GOALS 1. Students will develop the habits of lifelong reading and lifelong learning. 2. Students will develop an appreciation and understanding of literature in a variety of media. 3. Students will demonstrate their ability to locate, identify, and select resources using a variety of media. 4. Students will demonstrate their ability to apply reference and research skills in retrieving ideas and information from a variety of resources, including electronic databases, CD-ROM, and internet sources. 5. Students will demonstrate their ability to use higher-order thinking to evaluate, organize, analyze, and synthesize information and ideas for both problem-solving and decision making. 6. Students will demonstrate effective use of the research process to create their own classroom-based products. 7. Students will recognize that the school library media center is an integral part of a global information network. |
