What's INSIDE the Library
Media Center anyway?
Today's library is called a library media
center because it has so much more than just books! Sullivan's
library media center has:
thousands of BOOKS for students and teachers
to borrow, from fiction to nonfiction. We have picture books,
chapter books, drawing books, poetry, jokes, plays, plus books
about people (biographies), sports, science experiments, insects,
dinosaurs, countries, and much, much more!
a REFERENCE SECTION with encyclopedias, dictionaries,
almanacs, atlases, and more (these don't leave the room).
many kinds of MAGAZINES to read (these also
stay in the room).
seven iMac COMPUTERS for students to use (with
Mrs. Long's or another teacher's assistance).
a TELEVISION and a VCR so students
can witness important news events on cable t.v. or watch a video
related to library media center activities.
a STORY AREA, where younger students sit to
hear literature and information books read to them by Mrs. Long.
a WORK AREA, where students sit at tables
to learn library skills, work on research projects, write and
illustrate their own stories, read library books and other materials,
or sometimes just draw pictures while they wait to check out
books.
a DISPLAY AREA, where students can see book
displays about different topics related to the corresponding
month (and then check out the books).
a TEACHER'S INFORMATION section, where teachers
can find lesson plan ideas, books and magazines about education
or the art of teaching, and more.
and last but not least, ROOM FOR NEW IDEAS!
