EXPECTATIONS
PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH AND DANCE
Students will

- Observing and experiencing objects and ideas through a multitude of senses and form forming a sophisticated, informed response.
- Demonstrating an understanding of the relationships within personal, cultural and historical contexts.
- Demonstrating the ability to access valid health information and health=promoting products and services.
- Demonstrating the ability to use goal setting and decision making skills to enhance health
- Demonstrating the ability to advocate for personal,

- Demonstrating competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

.5 Credit – Semester Course – Grades 9-12
Physical Education/Health Education provides all students with opportunities to develop skills and habits that promote lifelong fitness and wellness. Students will actively participate in an environment which encourages lifelong responsibility to physical activity and healthy behaviors. Students who actively participate in Physical Education/Health Education will learn the social aspects, challenges, and leadership opportunities involved with Physical Education/Health Education activities. Through a variety of course options, students learn how a healthy lifestyle supports an improved quality of life.
The successful completion of Physical Education/Health Education is required for all students in each of their four years to be eligible for graduation.
.5 Credit – Semester Course – Grades 9-10
This course is designed to introduce the student to the art of dance and its related areas through participation, class discussions, films and guest artists. A variety of dance styles and their backgrounds will be highlighted. Preference will be given to 9th grade students. Department Chair approval is required for 10th graders.
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C- or above in Physical Education.
1 Credit - Grades 9-12
This course is designed for students with a serious interest in dance. Previous dance experience is recommended since the course is performance oriented. Technique, performance and choreography are stressed. The student will gain stage experience by presenting school and public concerts, performing at other schools and various community programs. For the students who plan to further their dance training, careers in dance, dance for children, dance history, dance therapy and dance production are covered. Students may select special areas of concentration in dance and develop projects unique to each individual.
