NEWPORT COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Senior Homework Club is now being held Thursdays in Mrs. Rosa's room.  If any Seniors have any questions, please see Jenn Buckley at lunch or come to the library afterschool.

SENIOR PROJECT REFLECTIVE ESSAYS DUE

Reflections essays are due to be handed in to your English teachers THIS FRIDAY.  After vacation Senior Project work will be strictly on portfolio building and performance practice.

SOPHOMORE CLASS FUNDRAISER

ONE LAST REMINDER:  Friday, February 17th is the last day for any sophomore student to turn in any tickets and money for the Wonderful Weeks of Winter Raffle to Mrs. Kimes in room 106.  Any tickets and money must be turned in by first lunch to Mrs. Kimes in room 106.

All the lucky winners of our Wonderful Weeks of Winter Raffle will be announced at the end of the school day FRIDAY, February 17th.  GOOD LUCK and thank you for all the support thus far!!!!!

RUNNING START

The Running Start deadline is  March 1,. 2012  for qualified Junior year students who are interested in completing their Senior year at the Community College of Rhode Island. Seniors who study at CCRI on a full-time basis during the day may be eligible to earn college credit and credit for high school graduation simultaneously. The  application, admission criteria , and scholarship application can be printed out online at the following links or picked up in the Guidance office.

SPORTS REPORT

 

  • Congratulations, Mrs. Emily Zilly, RI Secondary School Chemistry Teacher of the Year!

    RHS Science teacher Emily Zilly was recently chosen as the Rhode Island Secondary School Chemistry Teacher of the Year. She was chosen for having developed and implemented chemistry lessons based on grade span expectations for grades 9-12 and creating study materials for Newport Public Schools. Additionally she has tutored students preparing for the AP exam and designed laboratory experiments that enhance and enforce topics discussed in the lectures. Mrs. Zilly differentiates her lessons for various reading and comprehension levels and has her students participate in the URI annual chemistry contest in Kingston, RI.

    Congratulations! Mrs. Coleen Hermes - RI National History Day Teacher of the Year

    Social Studies Department Chair, Coleen Hermes, was awarded the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award recognizing her as the outstanding National History Day teacher at the senior high school level. Mrs. Hermes was selected based on her development and creative teaching methods that interest students in history and help them make exciting discoveries about the past and her exemplary commitment to helping students develop their interest in history and recognize their achievements.

    Linda Halliday Moitoza RI School Counselor of the Year

    Congratulations to Linda Halliday Moitoza, RI Guidance Counselor of the Year! Mrs. Moitoza was recognized by the RI School Counselor Association on Saturday, April 9 as the 2010- 2011 award winner.
