MISSION STATEMENT
Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center (AIALC) is dedicated to assisting out of school youth and adults by offering ABE/GED and alternative diploma programs to Newport County residents. In addition the program works to assist adult learners in becoming economically self-sufficient by the provision of workplace literacy skills and school to work transition activities into all program offerings. This is accomplished through the provision of a workplace literacy component that focuses on offering specialized workplace literacy skills; and providing a school to work transition component wherein program participants are offered the opportunity to engage in job exploration, access vocational testing, and participate in job shadowing activities.
In addition to providing literacy services for low literate adults the program makes available both American Council on Education External Diploma and Newport Diploma Plus program options. Participants have access to a full range of support services including learning disabilities assessment. Since AIALC is also a member of the Family Center Consortium, participants also have access to a wide range of social services designed to assist low-income program participants.
