REQUIREMENTS FOR GED CLASSES & TESTING
2004-2005
A 16 year old must show proof of disenrollment from school and have been dis-enrolled for 6 months prior to enrolling in GED classes. An assessment using the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) is required for admission.
A 16 year old may only test if they have been dis-enrolled from school for 6 months and obtained permission from the state GED administrator (Contact the Rhode Island Department of Education in Providence to set up an interview. A parent or guardian must accompany the child)
A 17 year old must show proof of dis-enrollment from school and have been dis-enrolled for 6 months prior to enrolling in GED classes. An assessment using the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) is required for admission.
A 17 year old may test if they have been dis-enrolled from school for 6 months and have permission from the Director of the Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center and has taken the pre-GED test.
16 & 17 YR. OLD
16 & 17 yr. olds will receive their official GED certificate on their 18th Birthday.
An 18 year old must have a TABE assessment prior to entering GED classes. Before registering to take the GED test an 18 year old must have taken the pre-GED test.
The PRE-TEST and TABE’s are given on Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Please call the AIALC office at 847-7171 to schedule an appointment. The cost for these assessments is $10.00.
The GED test is given each month from September through May. Students are notified if test scores indicate readiness to test. Registration for the GED test requires a picture ID, a social security card, and a $30.00 registration fee.
